Alex Otti, former APGA candidate, returns for
Abia governorship race.
He declared his interest to run again in 2019.
He made this known on Friday, July 20, 2018 at Ngwa High School, Aba, the venue
of his official declaration. In attendance were a huge crowd of his supporters.
He debunked the rumour that APGA is factionalized.
It
would be recalled that he contested for same post in 2015 general elections
under the platform of the All Progressives Grand Alliance ( APGA ). For record
purposes, Otti is a former banker and a financial expert.
In his
words: “I have decided to contest
again for the governor of the state because the Pharoahs of Abia must be forced
to let Abians go free.” He lamented that the incumbent governor, Gov. Okezie
Ikpeazu has failed to ensure regular payments of salaries and pensions and
also address the infrastructural deficit
in the state.
He stated that the reason for his contesting
again is to restore Abia to the path of growth and socio-economic development.
He urged his supporters to defend their votes
in 2019 general elections. In his words: “You all should rise to defend your
vote. This is a collective responsibility. When you do your bit and we do our
own bit, it will be impossible for anyone to rig the election”.
More so, Otti , in a flashback to the outcome
of Ekiti election last Saturday stated that it is now difficult for anyone to
rig elections again in Nigeria. In his words: “the Independent National
Electoral Commission ( INEC ) has improved on the electoral process and has made
it difficult for anybody to rig elections again.”
Also in the occasion was the former National
Chairman of APGA, Sen. Victor Umeh; The state chairman of the party, Rev.
Augustine Ehiemere; Anambra State Governor, Governor Willie Obiano (represented
by the deputy governor of Anambra state, Nkem Okeke.
The former National Chairman of APGA, Sen.
Victor Umeh, while making his speech, said that it was obvious that Abia people
gave their mandate to Otti and APGA in 2015 but was stolen. He assured Abians
that it will not happen again. He made it known that Ndigbo cannot do without
APGA as it is the only party that would address their developmental needs. In
his words: : “Igbo land must be made better through the placement of respected
and upright men and women in positions of political leadership in the zone.”
Anambra state deputy Governor, Nkem Okeke,
thanked the Abians for their relentless support towards Otti and APGA. He
promised that the people and government of Anambra would rally support for the
party in Abia in order to ensure its victory at the polls in 2019.
On his part, the state chairman of the party,
Rev. Augustine Ehiemere, started that the party would do everything possible in
2019 “to reclaim its stolen mandate.” He vowed that the party would put an end
to godfatherism in Abia as it did in Anambra.
